Trailercakes!!

We are pleased to announce that Trailercakes will be bringing their cupcakes to Cupcake Camp Dallas!!  Two children of the 70′s, Leora (Chief Cake Officer) and Heather (Chief Frosting Officer), plan on sharing their delicious “comfort cupcakes” with all of us.  We have confidence that Trailercakes will live up to their flower power reputation and we look forward to seeing the Trailercakes Airstream Trailer. Groovy!

Are you a pro or amateur baker? We are “pro” but a  small new bakery.  We are the founders (Leora & Heather).  We both have a long time passion for baking and wanted to market “happiness” in the form of cupcakes.   Our goal isn’t about beauty – its more about taste.  Our mission:  “Taste the best”.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? Peanut Butter & Jelly (White Cake/Grape Jelly Center/Peanut butter fluff) Best thing about our cupcake version of PB & J? It tastes better than the real thing. Second best thing about  our cupcake version of PB & J? You don’t have to cut the crust off.

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? We want to surround ourselves with bakers.  We hope to inspire as well as be inspired with others that share our cupcake passion.  Or is it obsession?

What makes a great cupcake? For Heather, as the Chief Frosting Cake Officer, “it’s always about the frosting”.   For Leora, the Chief Cake Officer, “It’s all about the moist cake”

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? For Heather, White/White (or as we call it at Trailercakes, “Hitched”); For Leora , the White with Chocolate frosting (or “Laverne & Shirley”)

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? Yes!  When we decided to open this business last year, our first attempt at baking vanilla cupcakes was a comedy routine.  We tried baking six different recipes at once.  Flour was everywhere, measurements were out of whack, we couldn’t remember which cup of sugar belonged to which recipe.  That was the day that we couldn’t decide if our names should be the “Lucy & Ethel” or “Thelma & Louise” of baking.  (As a side note, we went with Lucy & Ethel once we hired our Chief Happiness officer, Ricardo)

Got a good cupcake tip? Be creative!

Are you a pro or amateur baker? I am an amateur baker that loves baking and sharing my goodies with friends.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? I have three cupcakes that I am considering. Not sure which cupcake I will end up bringing….maybe all 3!

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I love that this is supporting a fabulous faith based charity, meeting the medical needs of impoverished children, while making people gloriously happy with cupcakes!

What makes a great cupcake? Yummy icing is a must…..BUT if the cake is not moist, spongy and tasty, nothing else matters!

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? There is nothing better than chocolate!

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? Making my neice’s 10th birthday cake out of a tower of cupcakes. Not only was it yummy but it was cute as well!

Cuptastic!!!

I hope you are all having a great week!  I am very happy to announce that Cuptastic! will be joining us at Cupcake Camp Dallas. Sisters Kamili and Shwari have dreamed of starting Cuptastic! from a very young age when they baked with their great grandmother’s kitchen.  I look forward to tasting the family secrets soon!

Are you a pro or amateur baker? We are new Pro Bakers!  My sister Shwari and I just got started about 8 months ago, but we have been baking for years.  We practically grew up in the kitchen with my mom and grandmother who also owned a business baking and selling sweet treats.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? We have decided to bring two of our personal favorites – chocolate heath bar and coconut.  Since we are always dreaming up new ideas, we might just have a surprise as well.

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I have been interested in Cupcake Camp since reading about it in other cities like LA and DC. We also come from a long legacy of community service, and are committed to continuing that legacy through Cuptastic!

What makes a great cupcake? In order to have a great cupcake you must have cake that is as tasty without the frosting as it is with the frosting, and the frosting must not be too sweet.

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? Kamili’s absolute favorite is red velvet. Shwari’s is heath bar.

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? We have many great memories, but the best would have to be our time spent with the girls from our church mentoring program preparing for an event we called “Cupcakes for the Cure”.  It was a great time of fellowship and we raised money for a great cause.  We even made special flavors for the event.

Got a good cupcake tip? Have fun and don’t be afraid to make a mistake.  You never know what masterpiece is lurking around the corner.

Bakers of all ages welcome–Emily!

The entire Cupcake Camp Dallas planning process has been so much fun, and we were most recently pleasantly surprised to find out Emily will be joining us as a baker!  Emily is 13 years old and we really like her enthusiasm and early initiative in pursuing a possible career in baking.  Read more about Emily and be sure to say hi to her in a few weeks:

Are you a pro or amateur baker? Amateur, I’m only
thirteen years old :)  But I have been paid for cupcakes from a few teachers and friends of my mom, and would like to be a professional some day!

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? Cinnamon Roll, Root Beer Float, Key Lime Pie, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I think it would be fun, and I would like to share my cupcakes with others out there.  I also love to experiment with my flavors and hope to try some new ones.  It all goes to a great cause and I love to help people.

What makes a great cupcake? It has to be fluffy, and with the best (not too sweet) frosting ever :)

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? My favorite is my Cinnamon Roll flavor. It’s just the right mix of spice and sweet, and the cream cheese frosting is so rich, it’s the perfect topping.

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? The first time I perfected my Cinnamon Roll cupcake, I was ecstatic.  It involves a number of unmeasured spices and the balance is amazing. It took a lot of batches to get it right, so I was so happy when I finally got it. My mom teases me because I still obsess about it.  Sometimes I think I can taste too much nutmeg or an uneven balance even when everyone else says they are great.  I know exactly how I like them to be.

Got a good cupcake tip? Take your time, if any of you guys are like me, you are perfectionists and want to get it done quick and perfectly. If you take your time, everything always works out better.

Meet Joanne!

We are meeting bakers faster than we can introduce them on the website!  Very excited that so many people want to be a part of Cupcake Camp Dallas.  Joanne recently started baking from her home and (like us) has been itching to see the Cupcake Camp phenomenon come to Dallas.  We’re excited that she’ll be joining us!

Are you a pro or amateur baker? I am definitely an amateur baker.  I started baking cupcakes in my home about two years ago.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? I’ve got it narrowed down to 2 or 3, but still undecided on the final selection.  I want to pick a good one!

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I love that it is for such a great cause.  Also, it sounds like tons of fun.  I’ve read about Cupcake Camps on some of the blogs I follow.  They’re always in New York or LA. I’m looking forward to experiencing it right here in the Dallas area!

What makes a great cupcake? I really think it’s a matter of personal taste and really good icing!

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor?  Carrot Cake or Italian Cream are two of my favorites.

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? I love to see the expression on my granddaughter’s face when she realized I’m baking cupcakes.  She gets so excited!  It is precious to watch her tiptoe and stretch to see what is on the counter top.  She is my biggest fan!

Got a good cupcake tip? I think my tip would be to just enjoy baking.  Don’t try to make each one perfect.  A little character is a good thing!

Meet Melissa

Less than 3 weeks away from Cupcake Camp Dallas!!  We’ve got several more bakers for y’all to meet including Melissa. Tickets are on sale now and we’d like for everyone to LIKE our facebook page and let us know you’re attending so that we get an idea of how many people are coming.

Are you a pro or amateur baker? I’m an amateur baker.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? My cupcake is a play on the fluffernutter sandwich!

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I want to be part of Cupcake Camp because I love to bake, I love to eat, and I’d enjoy the opportunity to help the less fortunate while having fun and sharing my treats

What makes a great cupcake? In my opinion, love and patience is what makes a great cupcake.

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? My favorite cupcake flavor changes often. Sometimes it’s fun to try something new and exotic and yet sometimes the best flavor is plain ol’ vanilla.

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? I have a friend who calls me his little cupcake girl. Every year for his birthday, I have to make him a special batch of fluffy vanilla cupcakes with fudgy-chocolate frosting. Any time I make some to share, he always tries to eat more than he at the last time we were all together!

Got a good cupcake tip? My tip is to follow your directions. Even shortchanging the mixing time can have a huge effect on how your cakes turn out.

Carol’s Cupcakery

It’s Friday!  We’re happy to see that so many people are expressing interest in Cupcake Camp Dallas, and we are really working hard to make this a fun event for everyone.  We’re really excited about tasting cupcakes from Carol’s Cupcakery! Make sure you read more about Carol’s Cupcakery on their facebook or twitter for more information!

Are you a pro or amateur baker? I have been baking for 30 years and am mostly self-taught.  I learned so much about baking from my mom, who is excellent in the kitchen and who is my inspiration.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? I will be bringing my top seller, which is the PB and C (peanut butter and chocolate).  It is a rich chocolate cake with peanut butter cream filling, frosted with chocolate fudge buttercream, drizzled with chocolate and topped with a peanut butter cup.   This cupcake satisfies the chocoholics and peanut butter lovers alike.

Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? Baking has long been a passion of mine and I’ve enjoyed being part of non-profits for years, so this was a great opportunity to combine the two. Plus, the competition should be fun!

What makes a great cupcake? The ideal combination of a light, moist, flavorful cake, enhanced with a heavenly creamy frosting, is the best!

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? My favorite (pictured above) is a coconut cupcake, frosted with vanilla buttercream and topped with lots of toasted coconut—delicious!

Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? Baking with my nieces and nephews tops the list, especially teaching them how to decorate cupcakes and pipe frosting.  The joy they get from designing their own cupcakes and the smiles on their faces says it all.

Got a good cupcake tip? It’s important to take your time when creating your own cupcake combinations (cake, frosting and toppings); so that they work well together and you want to bake it again and again.
