Featured Bakery: Tiered Dreams

We are pleased to have Tiered Dreams join us at Cupcake Camp Dallas this year. They will be one of our top sponsors and we are grateful for their generosity. Charles recently opened Tiered Dreams as a custom bakery in Dallas, Texas. He is from Tyler, Texas.

Tiered Dreams will be bringing Triple chocolate, Red velvet, Coconut, and Cheesecake cupcakes on Saturday! While Chuck doesn’t reveal all of his secrets, he admits part of his success is buttermilk in the batter and frosting.

Make sure to support and thank Tiered Dreams and our 45 other bakers this Saturday!

Featured Amateur Baker: Jennifer Nayman

I am an amateur baker, and I am currently attending Baking & Pastry School at El Centro. I call my home bakery SweetPea Bakery. Sweet Peas are the flower of my birth month, April, and also the nickname given to me by my mother. I’ve been baking for family since I was very young, but it was only about a year and a half ago that I decided to make it my career. I mean, what could be better than baking cake for a living?

I currently live and bake in Arlington, TX, but I’ve lived in the metroplex all my life.

I will be bringing three different cupcakes: Cookies & Cream, White Chocolate, and Raspberry Lemonade!

I was not able to bake for Cupcake Camp last year, but I was able to attend and the experience was Amazing. I am thrilled to be able to contribute even more this year to such a great cause.

Featured Amateur Bakers: Tricia, Megan, and Tracy

This year, our theme is “Frosting, the international language of love.” We’re all Texans now, but tell us a little bit about your heritage! Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

Tricia: born in atlanta but have lived in texas the past 26 years…san antonio, austin, then dallas
Megan: I’ve bounced around from coast to coast, but mostly grew up in Florida, and call Texas home.
Tracy: I’m a Georgia Peach who recently moved to Arlington.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas?
We are still working in the test kitchen, but if Tracy has any say in the matter it will be something banana-inspired.

If you were a part of Cupcake Camp Dallas last year, tell us a little bit about your experience. If not, tell us how you heard about cupcake camp.
Tricia: Cupcake camp was awesome last year! I love how anyone can participate, and see all the fun flavors people come up with. Plus, everyone there is happy because everyone loves cupcakes!
Megan: I love to see the creative combinations, but mostly I love the excuse to make cupcakes.
Tracy: I heard about Cupcake Camp last year, but couldn’t attend, it’s been a long year of waiting for my chance to see (and taste) it all first hand!

What makes a great cupcake?
Tricia: A great cupcake has to have cake and frosting that are really good on their own, but together are even better! i’m partial to fruit cupcakes but can’t really say no to any of them.
Megan:The cake is key for me, and I have no problem eating a cupcake without frosting.
Tracy: I think it’s all in the frosting. Chocolate frostings are good, but cream cheese frostings have stolen my heart.

Got a good cupcake tip?
Cupcakes are better when shared. People love you for giving them cupcakes, and you don’t feel guilty for having eaten them all.

Are you a pro or amateur baker? I am a professional baker who loves creating in the kitchen. Currently, I have an online cupcakery and plan to open a store front in Mansfield in the future.

This year, our theme is “Frosting, the international language of love.” We’re all Texans now, but tell us a little bit about your heritage! Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised on a farm in South Texas and moved to North Texas in 1995. My family is both German and Czech and baking was an important part of my growing up. Made from scratch kolaches and strudel were in our kitchen often.

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? Several of our popular flavors will be making an appearance…Rocky Road, Maple Bacon, Italian Cream, Snickerdoodle and a selection from our customers.

If you were a part of Cupcake Camp Dallas last year, tell us a little bit about your experience. Last year was a fabulous beginning to something I’m sure will be going on for a long time. It was phenomenal to see so many bakers come together for a common cause, plus it was great to meet crowds of cupcake lovers.

What makes a great cupcake? The perfect balance of rich, moist cake, topped with just enough frosting to make it sublime!

Got a good cupcake tip? Take your time with your recipes, and be careful not to overbake!

Featured Bakery: The Hospitality Sweet

The Hospitality Sweet is a bakery founded by two sisters (Kristen and Meghan) specializing in custom desserts. At the end of June, they will be opening at the new Timothy Oulton store at Henderson and Central Expressway.
Kristen graduated from Baylor University with a degree in finance while Meghan graduated from American University with a degree in broadcast journalism.

After years of working in their areas of study, their priorities shifted as they each became mothers within a few months of each other. It was time for a career change!

Committed to being stay-at-home moms to their girls, Madison McKee, Kate, Olivia and Gable, the sisters looked for creative ways to use their talents.

Raised in the kitchen, the heartbeat of their childhood home, the girls found their passion for cooking and baking, developing their gift of hospitality. That passion has become The Hospitality Sweet and now, their girls play in the kitchen!

They will be bringing their new Push-Up Cupcakes, which are a different spin on a traditional cupcake. Their most popular flavors are Texas Sheet Cake, Melted Candy Bar, and S’Mores, but they’ll also have some traditional favorites as well!

Tart Bakery is owned and operated by Pastry Chef Kristen Massad. In 2004, Kristen realized her dream to open both a modern and vintage bakery. Going on almost 8 years of successful business, Tart is thrilled to participate in 2012′s Dallas Cupcake Camp and share our great love of cupcakes!

What makes a great cupcake? – unique flavors, very moist, and of course a made-from-scratch superb sweet cream or fudge icing!

Cupcake Tip? – One can never have too many cupcakes – and never enough frosting! Keep calm and eat some frosting! :)

What type of flavors will we bring to cupcake camp? – Our most popular flavors are Devils Food, Vanilla, Strawberry, Carrot and Red Velvet. We use a variety of frostings ranging from our delicious sweet cream to French Buttercream to melt in your mouth fudge icing. Our talented Pastry Chef, Nancy De Dios, will be participating in the Cupcake Contest and plans to bring some of our more unique flavors such as our “Passion Fruit Berry” cupcake – a vanilla cupcake with a Passion Fruit filling and a raspberry buttercream on top. Yum!

Our best selling cupcakes are our traditional vanilla with our famous sweet cream icing, our Devil’s Food (chocolate) cupcake with Fudge Icing. Our chocolate peanut butter and red velvet are also best sellers.

Outside of our standout cupcakes, Tart Bakery gives a uniquely contemporary flair to a French pastry style that is steeped in tradition. Our bakery offers great gifts items including ceramic cake stands, melamine French Bull plates & platters and several lines of whimsical aprons.

Tart offers a wide assortment of desserts that are as mouth-watering as they are aesthetically divine. They have become known for their flourless chocolate truffle cake, cake balls & Parisian french macaroons. For the indecisive shopper, or someone looking to appease a few different cravings at once, Tart provides a visually arresting assortment of delicious miniature pastries, including lemon meringue tartlets, mini eclairs, and heavenly glazed petit fours. For those with an East Coast appetite, Tart offers New York-style tea cookies by the pound as well as cannolis, big & small.

Featured Baker: Kristina Kent

I am excited about joining Cupcake Camp Dallas again this year!  I just graduated from culinary school but I am still an amateur baker.  I sell cupcakes from my home bakery.

This year, our theme is “Frosting, the international language of love.” We’re all Texans now, but tell us a little bit about your heritage!  I am half Italian and thats the only half that counts! Haha!

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?  I grew up in lubbock Texas but I live in Lake Dallas now

What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas?  I am running with the theme this year. Since I am Italian, i will be doing an italian themed cupcake thid year…Limoncello!

Tell us a little bit about your experience with Cupcake Camp last year.  It was so much fun! I really enjoyed getting to try other cupcakes and getting to know other cupcake bakers!

What makes a great cupcake? A moist crumb and frosting that complements the cake. I dont think the cake should rely on the frosting, they should work together.
