What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? An angel food cake… frosting has yet to be determined!
Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I remember seeing the poster for ‘Cupcake Camp: Los Angeles‘ when my boyfriend was living out in San Diego, thinking that it would be fun to go. But since I wouldn’t be out there visiting him at the time of the event, I was disappointed. Imagine my excitement when I heard that you were coming to Dallas! I knew I had to participate instead of just attending, so here I am!
What makes a great cupcake? A light cake with a moist crumb… and that all-important fluffy frosting!
What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? Dark Chocolate
Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? My sister made my 29th birthday super-special with several presents given to me at different times throughout the day… every one of them cupcake-themed!
Good morning campers! We are all excited to announce that Central Market will be sponsoring the Kid’s center with build-a-cupcake stations at Cupcake Camp Dallas. We’d also like everyone to meet one of our bakers, Mike. He’s a good friend of ours, and a very talented baker!
Are you a pro or amateur baker? I’m a home baker. I have taken a few pastry classes at El Centro College (for fun).
What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? Since it’s spring, I wanted to showcase a fruit. I decided on a white cake recipe with a good bit of strawberries. I haven’t decided on the icing yet.
Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? I love to bake, and I am always looking for ways that i can make a difference in Dallas and around the world. I don’t know that many bakers, so I’m looking forward to trying other people’s delicious desserts.
What makes a great cupcake? The cake is the star, and it should be moist and soft. The icing should be a nice complement, and it shouldn’t obliterate your taste buds with sweetness.
What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? Chocolate with dark chocolate icing.
Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? A friend sent me a link to a cupcake blog. I was so impressed and inspired that I started baking every weekend. That was six years ago, and I still bake almost every weekend for friends.
Got a good cupcake tip? Baking is a science. Measure everything accurately and resist the temptation to stray from the recipe. Also, practice makes perfect – your friends and family will love you!
While we are still recruiting bakers, we thought it would be time to start meeting some of the early enrollees at the Cupcake Camp! Kristina will be bringing 96 of her homemade delicious treats!
Are you a pro or amateur baker? – Currently I am an amateur baker, I am currently in culinary school.
What type of cupcake will you be bringing to Cupcake Camp Dallas? –I am bringing my super ooey gooey Caramel Macchiato cupcake. It is an espresso infused vanilla cupcake filled with a scrumptious caramel sauce and topped with an amazing vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream and drizzled with caramel.
Why do you want to be part of Cupcake Camp Dallas? –I have read all about the Cupcake Camps on Cupcakes Take the Cake and have been just dying for it to come here! I love to bake and I love to see people enjoy the food I have prepared for them, I make some really mean cupcakes and I cannot wait to share them with everyone! (it doesn’t hurt that this is great marketing too!) I am also super excited about the competition part because I love a good competition ( I think that’s a chef thing!)
What makes a great cupcake?- I absolutely do NOT like dense heavy cupcakes! I love a moist, decadent, light cupcake with some sort of filling on the inside for the surprise factor, and just the right amount of frosting on top,
What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? – I love a good, rich, chocolate cupcake. Topped with some ganache and chocolate curls. YUM!
Do you have a favorite cupcake memory? I don’t want to sound brass but I think it was when I finally got my caramel macchiato cupcake right. I have at least one caramel macchiato (drink) a day and I wanted to incorporate all the things I love about the drink into a cupcake, I tried a couple of different things until, voila! The Caramel macchiato was born!
Got a good cupcake tip? The frosting cannot overpower the cake, it has to complement it. I’ve had way too many cupcakes where the frosting was too sweet or just not right. The cupcake should be about the cake, light, moist and delicious-the frosting is really just a bonus.
